How I got my first JOB in Bangalore: My Life Story

The difficulties I faced to get my first job is too much but at the same time we have to face the problems head on because that's what humans do right?

Here I will share my complete story in short "HOW I GOT MY FIRST JOB IN BANGALORE". I hope you guys can connect with me.

How I Got My First Job in Bangalore: My life story

Hello everyone! My name is Riddick Saikia, too handsome and filled with useless creativity and also the owner of this blog website 😎. I come from a small village in Assam, India, called "Balipara". Today, I am here to share my story ☺️. I am currently 24 years old, and these 24 years have been filled with happiness, sadness, and tough times both mentally and physically.

I did my schooling at "Elite Academy," located in Balipara, Assam. For my higher secondary education, I went to "Kendriya Vidyalaya" in Lokra, Assam. I completed my graduation in B.Com (Management) from "Gauhati University" in Guwahati, Assam, and finally, I pursued my MBA from the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad through distance learning.

So, that's my educational background. Looking at it, you’d think it would be easy for me to get a job, right? But that wasn’t the case. One thing I realized is that education alone doesn’t matter. The reputation of the college or university plays a crucial role when it comes to finding a job.

In 2021, after completing my graduation, I began preparing for state and central government exams. My parents wanted me to secure a government job, and I personally aimed for it too. However, I couldn’t qualify for any. I appeared for over 50 exams, but my mistake was that I took them without proper preparation 🤣. So, if you’re reading this blog and planning to pursue a government job, please don’t make this mistake!

To be honest, I didn’t have any specific goals back then. I was just applying for exams aimlessly. When I realized I couldn’t crack any of them, I started my own small business, a cyber café with my parents' help. It generated a bit of income for me, but I couldn’t see it as my long-term future. I kept applying for government jobs while managing my business.

I took exams for State Bank of India (SBI), Assam Police, Indian Army, CRPF, BSF, SSC CGL/CHSL, Post Office GDS, and many more, but I couldn’t crack any of them.

In 2022, I decided to pursue an MBA. My parents agreed, and my friend Rohan suggested I enroll in IMT Ghaziabad for distance learning. Without a second thought, I applied and got selected. Since it was a distance MBA, I could continue running my business alongside.

Unfortunately, after a few months, my startup wasn’t doing well. Time was flying, and I realized I needed to try for private-sector jobs in reputed companies. I joined a few online courses like Digital Marketing, MS Excel, HTML, CSS, and Canva, and worked on improving my English-speaking skills to enhance my resume.

After gaining these skills, I applied for private jobs in Assam. I sent out applications to over 50 companies for various roles, but I didn’t receive a single call. Instead, I kept getting calls from fake or fraudulent companies that demanded money before interviews. Of course, I wasn’t fooled by them 😎.

At this point, I was feeling depressed. Despite having a degree, I couldn’t land a job. My parents were worried too, as starting a good business required significant capital, which we didn’t have.

One day, my friend Triben Choudhary suggested, "Bro, you’re a graduate and have good communication skills. Instead of applying in Assam, try Bangalore. You’ll surely get an opportunity there it’s filled with big companies."

triben:

I discussed this idea with my parents. They were initially hesitant about me moving to a new city, worrying about how I’d manage daily activities like cooking, washing clothes, and managing expenses. However, I managed to convince them, as they understood the importance of building a career.

On April 23, 2024, I arrived in Bangalore with Triben. He helped me find a PG, but the expenses were high ₹8,500 per month. I had brought only ₹20,000 with me, so it was crucial to find a job quickly before running out of money. I still have to pay 5,000 debt to Triben. I hope he forgets about that. HEHE...

I stayed in Nagavara, near Manyata Tech Park, and began applying for jobs in nearby locations. Finally, I got a few responses from HRs and started attending interviews. The initial ones didn’t go well since I was new to the process. But after attending about 10 interviews across different locations, I finally landed my first job!

The company was "Indusviva Health Sciences Private Limited", and I joined as a Business Development Executive. My responsibilities included creating product banners, uploading them on social media, generating leads, and making successful sales. I started with a CTC of ₹30,000, but during my 3-month training period, I received only ₹15,000 in hand.

After 3 months, the company extended my training period for another 3 months. This posed a challenge because managing with ₹15,000 was tough. My PG rent was ₹8,500, and I was spending ₹6,000 on travel since there was no proper bus connectivity, and I relied on Uber or Rapido to commute.

By September 30, I decided to resign and return home. Coincidentally, it was Dussehra, so I got to spend the festival with my family.

While at home, I began applying for private jobs in Assam again. Despite having 5 months of experience, I was still considered a fresher and didn’t get any offers.

Eventually, I decided to return to Bangalore. This time, I stayed in HSR Layout at a friend’s flat and applied for jobs again. I got an offer from an EdTech company called "HeyCoach" in Koramangala. However, after a week of training, I left the company for personal reasons (sorry, no details 🤣).

Surprisingly, I received a call from my previous company, Indusviva, for the role of Executive: Special Projects. I rejoined as a permanent employee since I was already familiar with their products and processes.

Currently, I am working at Indusviva, but challenges continue. I walk to the office daily, covering 14 kilometers round trip (over 300 kilometers per month). Despite the difficulties, I’ve learned to manage everything.

My future goal is to build multiple income streams. While I am blogging and working now, I ultimately want to make my job a secondary income source and focus on creating passive income.

I hope you enjoyed my story 🤣🤣. Trust me, I’ve struggled a lot, but this is life: "When life gives you challenges, respond with a strong comeback!

Wish me luck in the comments! Thank you very much, and see you in another blog.
